Judy Moody and her brother Stink team up to solve puzzles and unearth clues in this swashbuckling adventure that might lead to buried treasure. David Gradwohl, professor emeritus of anthropology and founding director of the ISU Archeological lab, will provide a presentation on Buxton, Iowa. Buxton, a coal mining town, which existed between 1900 and 1925, boasted a large Black population of professionals and immigrants from countries such as Belgium, Sweden, France, Norway and Germany. The town’s residents of diverse heritages existed with little racial and ethnic discrimination until its evacuation. A question and answer session will immediately follow the formal program.
It’s not as simple as it looks on TV. Jump into the universe of blood spatter, bullet fragments, and fingerprints during CSI: Des Moines. Retired DMPD Crime Scene Investigator Greg Gourd will share stories about the real-world challenges of forensics and discuss procedures that real investigators use to collect and document evidence at a crime scene.
